Life and AD&D Insurance – CIGNA – Mecklenburg EMS Agency and Mecklenburg County participate in a group life insurance plan administered by CIGNA. Mecklenburg EMS Agency pays the full cost of the premium for individual coverage for all regular full-time employees. The amount of coverage is equal to your annual salary (rounded to the next highest thousand dollars) and two times that amount for accidental death and dismemberment coverage.
Supplemental Life Insurance – The Hartford provides an additional benefit for employees to purchase up to five times their annual salary or a max of $300,000 in life insurance coverage. If purchasing this additional benefit, you may also purchase up to half the amount you’ve selected for yourself to cover your spouse, as well as a $10,000 benefit for any dependent children.
Worldwide Travel Assistance is another feature of this policy. This benefit gives you 24-hour emergency access when you travel 100 miles or more from home for 31 consecutive days or less. Short Term Disability Insurance (STD) – UNUM – After your first 90 days of employment – Paid to an employee after 26 calendar days, if medically disabled due to a non-work related illness or injury, is under the care of a licensed physician and unable to work. To be eligible, the employee must provide medical documentation from the attending physician to cover the entire absence. STD is equal to 60% of the employee’s basic weekly earnings and will be paid to the employee for up to 26 weeks.

Temporary Long Term Disability Insurance (LTD) – The Standard – For Long Term Disability the employee must provide medical documentation from the attending physician to cover the entire absence. LTD is equal to 60% of the employee’s basic weekly earnings and will be possibly paid to the employee up to the age of 62. You must be still be under the care of a licensed physician and unable to work. There is a waiting period of 180 days.
