FAQs.
Do I need to be certified to apply?
Yes, an EMT certification is required to apply for EMT positions. However, Medic does offer an internal EMT certification program generally 2 times per year.
Do you offer reciprocity?
Yes. Reciprocity may be available depending on your current state or region.
What kind of shifts do you offer?
Our field providers have a 40-hour work week and a wide variety of 10- and 13-hour shifts. There are also several shift bid opportunities throughout the year.
How many calls will I run in a day?
No day is the same! Trucks average anywhere from 7-10 responses per day, including cancellations.
How advanced are your EMT protocols?
Our EMTs practice a fairly advanced BLS scope, performing critical interventions including 12-lead acquisition, CPAP, advanced airway management and administration of medications including nitrous.
Do you hire part-time EMTs or any Advanced EMTs?
We currently do not hire part-time employees. Advanced EMTs may apply for EMT positions, but they practice an EMT scope.
Are you a private agency?
Medic is not a private company or run by a hospital, we are a “joint governmental agency” overseen by an Agency Board of Commissioners and Mecklenburg County.
What kind of system do you run?
System status management, tiered with ALS/BLS, primarily 911 with a dedicated team to cover scheduled transports (about 12% of overall volume). We transport approximately 122,000 patients per year.
Do you have paramedic programs?
