Application

Applicants are reviewed and prioritized if they include experience and certifications for Emergency Medical Dispatch or Emergency Fire Dispatch. Experience is not required.

Criticall Test

This online test includes 12 modules testing skills and tasks that telecommunicators will encounter in a dispatch environment ie; multi tasking, data entry, emergency situation, decision making, mapping and more.

Phone Interview

If a large number of applicants pass the Criticall test, we will conduct a phone interview to narrow the selection.

Panel Interview

Candidates meet with at least 4 panel members, CMED leadership, TC’s, CTO’s and HR

New Hire Academy

New Hire Academy for telecommunicators include 3 weeks – 1 week for certifications: EMD (3 days) and EFD (2 days), and 2 weeks classroom time to review equipment and tools ie; phone, CAD, mapping

Communications Training

You are paired with a Communications Training Officer for approximately 6-8 weeks to review initial call processing (Phase 1). Second phase (Phase 2) the trainee is mostly independent for call taking. The trainer will listen periodically to calls from start to finish, but will listen to ALL calls where pre arrival instructions are being given, ie; CPR, bleeding control, etc.

Final Test Out

You are released from training and assigned a shift until a formal shift bid can take place.

Radio Operator

Once identified by leadership that your skill level is proficient, you are eligible to participate in radio training for various operational channels. This can take up to 9 weeks to complete.

Controller

High performers are identified and selected to move forward with Controller training – approximately 2 to 4 weeks.
