Tom Pagels

Tom Pagels went into cardiac arrest while driving on June 10th, 2013 on Sharon Road West in South Charlotte. His vehicle hit a utility pole and came to a stop. As Medic Telecommunicator Andy Berger gave witnesses instructions on how to free Mr. Pagels from his vehicle, first responders from Charlotte Fire Department Ladder 16 and CMPD officers arrived on the scene. Firefighters started CPR as paramedics Josh Baun and Johnathon Bobbitt arrived and initiated Medic's Focused Cardiac Arrest Protocol. Mr. Pagel's heart was shocked seven times before Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC) was achieved.

Code Cool was also initiated as Mr. Pagels was transported to CMC Pineville. He was released nine days later and has since made a full recovery.

Mr. Pagels, along with his wife, daughter and six grandchildren, returned to Medic Headquarters on Wednesday, August 14th, 2013 to reunite with the crew members who helped save his life.
