A LIFE SAVING DEVICE GIVEN TO MECKLENBURG’S LESS FORTUNATE RESIDENTS

Deceased EMT’s family donates an AED to Men’s Shelter of Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (March 3rd, 2016) – On behalf of the family of fallen EMT, Lars Morch, Mecklenburg EMS Agency has donated its 118th life-saving AED (Automated External Defibrillator) to the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte through the Lucky Hearts Campaign.

The Men’s Shelter of Charlotte AED was donated by Lars Morch family. Last year, Lars was visiting his family in Norway when he suffered a cardiac arrest. His unexpected passing was felt throughout the entire MEDIC organization. Lars displayed a level of compassion to Mecklenburg County residents that many try to emulate to this day. Lars continues to serve the community through his AED donation.

Public use AEDs helps increase a person’s chances of survival from sudden cardiac arrest. The faster an AED is applied to a person suffering from cardiac arrest, the better their chances are for survival and recovery. Since the campaign’s inception in 2009, the Lucky Hearts Campaign has trained more than 3,200 people across Mecklenburg County in both CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) awareness.

MEDIC has nearly 400 AED’s registered in the 911 system. If the AED is registered in the MEDIC 911 system and the caller dials 911, the Dispatch Center can instruct the caller on the location of this life-saving device. If you have an AED in a Mecklenburg County building and have not registered it with MEDIC, please visit www.medic911.com to register your device.
