Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) received 13 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) from the Lucky Hearts Campaign today, Wednesday, August 31st, at 10:30 am at the CMPD Metro Division, 1118 Beatties Ford Road.
The donation will help to outfit all 13 of CMPD’s divisions with at least one AED. Public use AEDs help to increase a person’s chances of survival if they are suffering a cardiac arrest. By CMPD outfitting all 13 team offices with an AED, it will increase their chances of possibly saving a life if and when a cardiac related emergency occurs onsite.
Mecklenburg EMS Agency (Medic) is reporting significantly improved results in treating sudden cardiac arrest victims thanks to a new protocol that the Agency implemented in August of 2009 called the Focused Cardiac Arrest Protocol. In the first twelve months following implementation of the new protocol, Medic’s success with sudden cardiac arrest victims in the Prehospital setting has improved by 11%. Such success in the Prehospital setting is critical as it provides patients with the foundation required to have any chance for survival.
Officials with Mecklenburg EMS Agency (Medic), Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS), Presbyterian Healthcare and Mecklenburg County today announced the official launch of a patient driven response program called OMEGA. The OMEGA program gives patients with minor medical problems more options to better meet their specific healthcare needs.
As 2010 nears a close, officials with the Lucky Hearts Campaign will continue to celebrate the 50th year of modern day Cardiopulmonary Resusitation (CPR).
