In 2010, Medic will receive nearly 95,000 calls for help. Approximately one-third of these calls will be for an injury. Nearly half of all injuries are due to either falls or motor vehicle crashes. These types of injuries can be prevented or greatly reduced through proper education.
This Fall, Medic will be adding an education program geared toward teen driving and the consequences of being a distracted driver - the Drive Smart Program. Medic, along with other area first responders, will bring the sights and sounds of a motor vehicle accident to the parking lots of local high schools and discuss the right decisions teens need to make to not become a statistic.
In addition to injury prevention, Medic focuses on an overall health initiative every year to help educate and bring awareness to a certain subject. This year, Medic has dedicated itself to educating Mecklenburg County on the importance of cardiac health and Automated External Defibrillator awareness through The Lucky Hearts Campaign.
Below are some safety and prevention tips you can follow to help keep you and your loved ones safe.
